Chhath geet are woven through the festival. They are heard during domestic preparation, as families travel to the ghat, while offerings are arranged and in the hours surrounding sunset and sunrise. Bihar Tourism describes these folk songs as expressions of Bihar’s culture and history.

A living musical tradition

Some songs have travelled through generations in family and community singing. Others are known through recordings by artists whose voices have become closely associated with Chhath. The songs evoke the sun, the river, the offering basket, family separation and the hope of returning home.

This guide does not reproduce lyrics. It identifies the recordings used by the website and credits their performers, helping listeners discover the music while respecting the artists and rights holders.

How playback sources are handled

The website uses credited YouTube recordings that have been tested for embedded playback. A source is included in the active playlist only after it reaches the playing state inside the embedded player. Search-only entries and sources blocked from embedding are excluded from automatic playback.

Availability can still change because the recordings remain hosted by their respective YouTube channels. The website does not copy or redistribute audio files.

Music across the four days

Use the individual guides to follow the music’s changing setting: the home on Nahay Khay, the evening stillness of Kharna, the sunset gathering of Sandhya Arghya and the first light of Usha Arghya.
